(KNSI) — Governor Tim Walz says airmen from Minnesota shot down the object spotted over Lake Huron on Sunday.

Walz says it was members of the 148th Fighter Wing, an Air National Guard unit based in Duluth, who took off from Madison, Wisconsin, on the federal mission. The 148th flies F-16C block 50 Fighting Falcons.

Authorities say they believe it may have been the same object spotted over Montana Saturday.

The Pentagon Press Secretary said the altitude, location and direction were concerning as it flew close to sensitive military sites and may have posed a risk to commercial air traffic.

Officials are calling it an object for now as it could not be officially classified as a balloon. It’s the fourth object in eight days to be shot out of the sky over the United States after the Chinese spy balloon was downed over the Atlantic Ocean on February 4th.
