(KNSI) – With another day of above-freezing temperatures in the forecast, St. Cloud officials ask neighbors to clear drains and prevent localized flooding.

The public works department says snow and ice can build up around drains as the temperature rises. That makes it where the water has nowhere to go. Neighbors are encouraged to get together and adopt a drain to keep it clear all year round.

Most of the city’s stormwater is directed to the Mississippi River, Sauk River, or wetlands. Some runoff is routed through a treatment process, including stormwater ponds.

In case of urgent drainage issues or flooding, contact the public works department at 320-650-2900. For after hours or weekends, call the non-emergency dispatch number at 320-251-1200.
