Correction: AIT’s $3.8 million expansion will be partially funded by two grants. The one going before the city council totals $125,000, not $1.3 million as initially reported.
(KNSI) – Advanced Interconnect Technologies of St. Cloud has passed its first hurdle to receive grant funding to help with a $3.8 million expansion.
The money comes in two forms, with one awarded directly by the state. The other goes to the City of St. Cloud by way of the state before being given to the company in the form of a low-interest loan. A requirement of that $125,000 grant is for the issue to have a public hearing before the city council.
AIT was approved for that by the St. Cloud Economic Development Authority on Tuesday. The company is located at 128 Franklin Avenue Northeast. It would at least double the size of the machining shop. The growth would come on the building’s south side which is bordered by a Veterans of Foreign Wars post. There is some room for another expansion on the northern end of the property as well.
Setting a date for the public hearing should be a part of the consent agenda at next week’s city council meeting. More information about AIT can be found here.
