(KNSI) — A Sartell student is one of only 12 in the country picked as a junior council member for a national kids’ news magazine.

Riverview Intermediate School fifth-grader Madison Evans recently learned she would be writing with and learning from the professionals at The Week Junior. Madison told KNSI News how she reacted upon learning she made the cut. “The second I found out I was in it, I ran around my entire house and did laps.”

The council will spend the next several months learning from the magazine’s editors and mentors. Madison says she hopes to learn to become a strong voice and help improve the world.

Her favorite topics to write about are arts and entertainment. Madison already published her first article about her love of the show Lego Masters.

She was the only student from Minnesota to make it onto the council. The publication has around 100,000 subscribers.

Her mother, Jen, said it was a fairly rigorous process that included submitting a writing sample and video. Madison was competing against hundreds of other children.
