(KNSI) – The ROCORI School Board will get together Monday night for a marathon session. Technically, it is three meetings in one.

At 5:30, the group will hear an update on the superintendent search. Dr. John Thein was named to the position on an interim basis in May 2022.

The regular meeting will start an hour later and then a special work session begins preparing the Fiscal Year 2024 budget. Funding is primarily based on enrollment and ROCORI is growing. It ended the 2021-2022 school year with 2,294 students in total from grades K-12. This school year has averaged 2,360, which is in line with what was estimated. The figures are part of the superintendent’s report.

Other items of interest on the agenda for the regular meeting include accepting a $4,000 gift from Donlar Construction for tools and supplies for the Habitat for Humanity build. The nonprofit has teamed up with ROCORI, St. Cloud Area Schools, and Sartell-St. Stephen District 748 again. Each district program is responsible for one home.

ROCORI operates on a trimester agenda, with each period broken up into two terms. As part of the consent agenda, the board is expected to approve a scheduling change that added January 23rd and 24th to the third term. The move was made to smooth out the overall schedule following a spate of snow days in December and January. Each term has between 27 and 29 days at the secondary level. The elementary school calendar works solely on trimesters. They contain between 55 and 58 days.

The board says certain programs such as advanced placement college equivalent courses and driver’s education require a minimum number of instructional days, prompting the change.
