(KNSI) — The mild Friday morning temps will evaporate as an arctic airmass lurking over Canada dives south.

Temps were in the upper 20s to mid-30s around Minnesota as the snow ended, but gusty northwest winds are set to move in behind it, which has led to blowing and drifting snow and created some hazardous road conditions in parts of the state.

The National Weather Service says a “long duration cold air outbreak” will begin Friday night and stay in place through the last few days of January and into the first few days of February. Temperatures of ten to 20 below, with wind chills of 20 to 30 below, are not out of the question.

Temps across the area will get into the teens by Friday, February 3rd and stay above zero through at least February 10th. The average high for February around St. Cloud is around 26 degrees. The average low is about seven.

Gusty winds will make it feel even colder and could lead to dangerous conditions for individuals spending an extended amount of time outdoors.
