(KNSI) — A White Bear Lake police officer is hospitalized after they were shot late Tuesday night.
According to authorities, at around 10:00, police were attempting to make an arrest when shots were fired. The officer was reportedly shot in the abdomen. They were taken to a nearby hospital, where they underwent surgery and are said to be in stable condition. The suspect then barricaded themselves inside their apartment. The building was evacuated while negotiators worked to get the person to surrender. They were arrested around 1:00 Wednesday morning, and there is no threat to the public.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says it is responding to a use of force and officer shot incident in White Bear Lake but did not further specify if any officers fired their weapons at any point.
The 34-year-old suspect, Daniel Holmgren, is in the Ramsey County jail on outstanding warrants and is awaiting formal charges of attempted murder.
This marks the second time in three days that officers have been shot. Monday, two McLeod County deputies were shot while trying to serve a search warrant at a home in Winstead. Those officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect, in that case, was found dead inside their home.
