(KNSI) — A suspect is dead, and two deputies are out of the hospital after they were shot while trying to serve a warrant at a home in Winstead.
Authorities say Monday morning, McLeod County deputies went to the home to serve the warrant, reportedly related to a child pornography case. When they made contact with the subject of the warrant, he allegedly opened fire. The deputies retreated and called for backup and were taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Several law enforcement agencies, including the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, the Minnesota State Patrol and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, all responded.
The suspect believed to be the only person in the home, then barricaded himself inside and refused to communicate with negotiators. Police evacuated nearby homes, including a daycare, while trying to get the suspect out.
Monday evening, police sent a robot into the home and found the man dead.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has been called in to assist with the investigation, but it is unclear if any officers fired their weapons during the incident.
