(KNSI) — A man is dead after allegedly firing at a Brooklyn Park police officer and then turning the gun on himself.
According to a press release, officers were called to possible shots fired just before 11:00 p.m. Wednesday. When the first car arrived and began checking the area, their squad was struck by gunfire. They were not hurt but took up a position of cover and called for help. As more officers arrived, a 911 call came in from a nearby home saying the person who shot at police was lying in their driveway of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say a firearm was located next to his body.
A preliminary investigation shows the unidentified man was involved in a domestic dispute just before the shots were fired. Officers found the woman, who was safe and was not hurt.
The incident is under investigation, and the officer was wearing a body camera that was rolling at the time.
