(KNSI) — If you’re planning on going to the Mall of America over the long weekend, expect new security measures at the door.
Mall of America is setting up bag checks in response to several gun-related incidents. The most recent was the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Johntae Hudson, who was killed Friday, December 23rd, after a verbal argument escalated into the shooting inside Nordstrom’s. Officials say five people have been arrested. A stray bullet grazed a bystander’s jacket, but they were not hurt. Two other incidents in August included shots fired in the Nike store. No one was hurt. Two people were injured after they were shot on New Year’s Eve 2021.
Mall officials say enhanced security measures, both visible and invisible are in place but do not describe the full scope.
Bloomington Police has a department on-site at the mall with uniformed and plainclothes officers and a K9 unit.
