(KNSI) — Someone could end the year on a very high note as an estimated $640 million is up for grabs in the last Mega Millions jackpot of 2022.
Lottery officials say this is the largest jackpot by far for the final week of any year. The cash option is worth $328.3 million.
Since it began 20 years ago, the Mega Millions jackpot has passed the $600 million mark five times. The first was in March 2012, when it hit $656 million. At that time, it was the largest jackpot ever won. The new record was set in October 2018 when the jackpot reached $1.537 billion.
The first Mega Millions jackpot ever won in Minnesota happened on April 12th, 2022, when someone won $110 million. Minnesota is one of several states where lottery winners can remain anonymous.
The next Mega Millions drawing is Friday, December 30th, at 10:00 p.m. CST.
