(KNSI) – Now that Christmas has passed, real trees are starting to dry out and lose their needles. Soon, they’ll be ready to head to the landfill.

St. Cloud residents can get their trees picked up by the city but they’ll have to wait a bit if they are taking decorations down this weekend. The Public Works Department has designated Monday, January 9th, and Monday, January 23rd, for Christmas tree collection. All residents who use the garbage and recycling system are eligible.

Pickup is free but you must tie a clear yard waste bag to the tree, either on a branch or around the trunk where collection crews can see it. Residents should bring their trees to the curb near where they normally place garbage and yard waste.

All decorations, lights, and any other attachments, including the tree stand, must be removed. Wreaths are not accepted because they have wires in place to keep their shape.

Trees will be picked up beginning at 6:00 a.m. on each day.
