(KNSI) – A central Minnesota sailor spent the holidays keeping the world’s oceans safe.

U.S. Navy Gunner’s Mate 2nd Class Noah Rau is in the Philippine Sea aboard the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Bunker Hill. The Foley native recently helped his ship get refueled by firing a shot line to an oiler class ship so the two vessels could stay connected during the mission. Replenishment at sea operations allows the 7th Fleet’s combat ships to stay out on the ocean for extended periods of time.

The 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy’s largest forward-deployed fleet and routinely patrols the 35 countries that make up the Indo-Pacific region.
