(KNSI) — St. Cloud City Councilman Steve Laraway participated in his final meeting on Monday, using his time to reflect and offer his thoughts.
Laraway was appointed to the city council in June 2015 to fill a vacant seat when Nancy Gohman resigned from office. He was reelected in 2016 and 2018.
Laraway said he enjoyed serving and “I’m going to miss challenges and miss the people. It was time to move on to the next phase.”
Laraway retired from his financial company two years ago and recently bought a home in Florida.
Karen Larson will fill his seat in Ward 2. Laraway offered some advice for the incoming councilwoman. “Remember who elected you. Remember your constituents, and all politics is local. And worry about the things that are important to everybody like roads, infrastructure and public safety.”
He says he’s most proud of focusing on the east side and ensuring the area is included in the city’s plans. The city’s first distillery is opening on the east end, and leaders have started to meet about redeveloping that part of the city.
