(KNSI) – Snow plow crews in St. Cloud are working at a breakneck pace to clear snow before it freezes, and say so should you.
The National Weather Service forecast office in Chanhassen says temperatures will go from the 30s on Friday to the teens on Sunday. Public Services Director Tracy Hodel says that’s why getting yourself dug out now is so important. “Move your snow as much as you possibly can right now and get it off to the side. This temperature shift is one of the biggest reasons we issued a snow emergency last night.”
She says 65 vehicles had to be towed to make room for the plows on Friday morning. Hodel says they need to clear the streets to their full width. “If we don’t move everything it’s just going to freeze up into big massive blocks of ice. And that is something we’ll have to deal with for the whole winter.”
Hodel says crews have yet to get to every street yet. “We just want to let everybody know that we are working to try to get to every single road segment before this freezes so if we haven’t been there, we will be there.”
A snow emergency remains in effect until Monday morning unless rescinded earlier.
