(KNSI) — Following the news of major jumps in property tax rates due to high home valuations, the City of St. Cloud says there are several programs homeowners can take advantage of to lessen the burden.

The programs are through the Minnesota Department of Revenue and include property tax refunds. Individuals can call 1-800-652-9094 or apply here.

Senior citizens can look into a property tax deferral which may allow those 65 and older who meet certain other requirements to defer a portion of the property taxes they owe. Learn more by clicking here.

There are also programs for qualifying people who are blind or persons with disabilities, which would provide reduced classification rates on the first $50,0000 of taxable market value.

There is also a disabled veteran homestead property tax exclusion. For more information on qualifications, call 320-255-7203.

The preliminary state general levy property tax rate for taxes payable in 2023 jumped by double digits.
