(KNSI) — A new chapter officially begins Monday for the St. Cloud Police Department with the swearing-in of its new police chief and assistant chief.
Police Chief Jeff Oxton is a St. Cloud native and a graduate of Apollo High School. Oxton got his degree in criminal justice at the University of North Dakota. He also received his master’s in criminal justice from St. Cloud State University and has worked for the St. Cloud Police Department for 27 years, the last seven as assistant chief. Oxton is replacing William Blair Anderson, who retired from the department after ten years as chief. This is the first internal promotion for chief in 30 years.
Assistant Chief Brett Mushatt is also a St. Cloud native and a graduate of Tech High School. He attended St. John’s University, receiving a degree in social work. He completed a graduate degree in public safety executive leadership from Saint Cloud State University and joined the department in 2002.
St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis will administer the oath during a ceremony at 6:00 p.m. during Monday night’s city council meeting. Kleis says he is proud of the fact that the top positions in the department will soon both be staffed by lifelong central Minnesota residents.
