(KNSI) – Waite Park City Council is expected to authorize staff to begin looking for a new police chief at Monday’s meeting.

Dave Bentrud announced earlier this year that he will be stepping down in May 2023. The packet says the position requires the Civil Service Board to be involved in the process. A search firm will likely be used for preliminary vetting and arranging interviews.

The Civil Service Board would then provide input to the council to help the group select the next police chief. Bentrud was first hired as the city’s top cop in 2008.

Also on the agenda is a public hearing for the 2023 budget. The session begins at 6:30 p.m.
