(KNSI) — The Stearns History Museum has received a grant to care for its three-dimensional collections.

The grant comes from the Minnesota Historical Society and is one of 40 awarded to different institutions in 23 counties for the Three-Dimensional Collections Evaluation & Clean-up project. It focuses on the inventoried collections database from 2016 through this year, which includes over 3,500 objects. It picks up from the original digital inventory completed in 2015.

The project was made possible in part by the people of Minnesota through a grant funded by an appropriation to the Minnesota Historical Society from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

Two temporary staff members will be brought on board to assess the records, clean up data in the system and take high-quality pictures of each artifact. According to a press release, once that is complete, “the daily use of the collections database will be more efficient and the museum staff’s ability to locate and share information about the more than 30,000 artifacts in the collection will be more straightforward.”

The long-term goal is to allow the public greater online access to the Stearns History Museum collection.

Work on the project starts December 1st, 2022 and runs through December 1st, 2023.
