(KNSI) – Sartell City Council will hold a public hearing Monday on the sale of THC edibles.
The group had previously put a moratorium in place back on July 25th, and that will expire at the end of the year. Now that St. Cloud has established its own regulations, many other area cities are expected to adopt something similar. St. Cloud opted against initial recommendations for buffer zones between competing THC edible retailers, and areas around parks, schools, and churches. The provisions were the most controversial aspects of the licensing framework.
Sartell’s drafted ordinances have even tougher proximity clauses. There must be a 2,000-foot distance between competing businesses and a 1,000-foot buffer from any youth-oriented facility.
Some of the restrictions being suggested for Sartell include limiting sales to between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. daily, prohibiting product samples, and more. Any retailer would be required to avoid selling products that come in cartoon packaging and a sign must be displayed saying THC is available only to those 21 or older.
The city will also establish compliance checks at each store at least yearly. If a business fails the inspection, the first violation would result in a $300 fine. Repeat offenses within a three-year period would lead to a business losing its license, at least temporarily. Fines would ramp up to $1,000 per violation.
