(KNSI) – St. Cloud Police Department’s Safe Streets Initiative is changing course.
Initially implemented over the summer, it focused then on extra patrols and more traditional police work. On Thursday and Friday, it will add several partner organizations and turn into more of an outreach effort.
Community Response Team officers will join with the Landlord Task Force, the COPHouse Neighborhood Coalition, and St. Cloud State University’s Protect The Pack for safety walks from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Representatives will go door-to-door on the southside to engage with residents on a more personal level.
The goal is to develop connections and create a sense of comfort and familiarity around law enforcement that will pay dividends in the future. In a press release, the department says it will also offer opportunities for residents to share any current concerns they have.
Saint Cloud State University has sent out a separate release to its students. The school says the walks will elevate safety on campus and aligns with goals that have been set out regarding security. University leaders say they will join with officers on the walks.
