(KNSI) – A lawmaker from Central Minnesota has been appointed to lead her party in the legislature.

Cold Spring Republican Lisa Demuth has been named the new House Minority Leader. Demuth was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2018. She took the seat held by Jeff Howe when he became a Senator.

“It’s an honor to earn the support of my colleagues to serve as the next Leader of the House Republican Caucus,” Demuth said. “Minnesota has a difficult two years ahead with Democrats in complete control of state government, but House Republicans will continue to keep the focus squarely on the priorities of Minnesota families — public safety, tax relief, and keeping energy costs low. We will work with Democrats when it’s in the best interest of Minnesotans, but will not hesitate to point out when they bring bad ideas to the House floor.”

Demuth served as the Assistant Minority Leader during the last legislative session.  She replaces Kurt Daudt. He held the position since 2013.
