(KNSI) – St. Cloud area District 14 Senator Aric Putnam has won a second term in office, holding off a challenge from Republican former state Representative Tama Theis.
Putnam says he believes door knocking and talking to constituents is what put him over the top. “A lot of people voted for me because I knocked their door and talked to them and visited with them for a long time. And I think that they could tell that I’m reasonable first and a Democrat second.”
He says he has a code of ethics he follows while serving the district in St. Paul. “Part of what’s most important to me is being engaged in the community. You vote your community first, then your conscience, then you deal with politics later. That’s how I’ve always been. That’s how I’m always going to be.”
Putnam got just over 53% of the vote. He ran on a platform of tax relief, strong schools and safe communities.
Theis was in the Minnesota House representing District 14A for ten years.
