(KNSI) – Jolly Saint Nick is making a special November stop in Freeport to help raise funds for animals at the zoo. Santa Claus is coming to Hemker Park & Zoo on November 19th, 25th and 26th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The Guardians of Conservation are sponsoring the visit. The group’s Vice President, Jacki Poepping, talked about what will happen at the zoo. “Santa will be walking in some of his live reindeer, which will be in front of Hemker Park and Zoo. It is free and open to the public. See Santa’s live reindeer and visit with Santa. The picnic area at the zoo will be all decorated for the holidays.”
She says there will be plenty of chances to make memories. “The kids are able to talk with Santa, tell him their wish list for Christmas. There’ll be several different photo opportunities so make sure to bring a camera. And then, we do have a few of Hemker Park and Zoos antique sleds that will be out.”
There will be hot cider, coffee and Christmas cookies for the guests that come to the zoo. The gift shop will be open with season passes on sale for next year. The zoo is closed for the 2022 season.
Poepping says they are asking for donations to purchase a new anesthesia machine and playground equipment.
