(KNSI) — Halloween is fun for many, but it can be stressful for our four-legged friends.
Tri-County Humane Society Executive Director Vicki Davis says there are better ideas than trying to dress up your pet. “There are people that love to do it, and there are dogs and cats that love it too but then there are others that just shut down completely when you put something on their face [or] just put something different on them. And you can tell. If your pet doesn’t like it, don’t do it.”
She says if you have a high-strung animal, unplug your doorbell or take advantage of the warmer weather and leave the screen off and the front door open. This way, you can see people coming up to the door.
Davis says to also keep the candy out of reach. “I think most everybody knows nowadays that chocolate is not good for pets. But really any kind of that foreign food, foreign snacks and treats and sugar is not good. Even the decorating that you do sometimes those ears of corns if they start nibbling on those or the pumpkins, they aren’t toxic, but it could upset their tummies.”
