(KNSI) — Arvig, whose phone, television and internet customers experienced service disruptions this week, says hackers attempted a ransomware attack on their system.
According to its social media page, a “cybersecurity incident” happened at about 6:45 a.m., but the attempted attack was unsuccessful. While the hack failed, the company says the attackers were able to cause a service interruption.
Officials credit the “extra layers of protection implemented by Arvig’s cybersecurity team” for the failure. Extra protection was put in place to protect customer data. They said at this time, it does not appear any customer or employee data was accessed, and it is being investigated with forensic analysis to ensure the threat was stopped.
Arvig was able to restore voice and internet services in approximately 3.5 hours.
