(KNSI) — The St. Cloud Rox Project S.A.V.E. Foundation is recognized as the Northwoods League Community Program of the Year for the 2022 season.
In a press release, Rox Managing Partner Scott Schreiner says, “The philanthropy and community engagement throughout the year by the Rox is teamwork at its best for the greater good of our community. It is only possible because of the great fans, corporate partners, and staff.”
The foundation began less than four years ago and has raised thousands of dollars through its 501(c)(3)non-profit, including $21,000 for its scholarship program and the creation of the RBI Club for the St. Cloud Area School District. The Reading Books Independently Club provides over 400 elementary school students in grades 3-5 with free books to help incentivize reading at home. A $5,000 grant was also awarded for St. Cloud Tech High School’s Tiger Build to help construct a home for a needy St. Cloud Family through the Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity. The new Mini Golf Challenge Cup Tournament raised $12,000 through Project S.A.V.E. for the Central Minnesota Auto Care Association to help fund a new scholarship program for students advancing their education in the automotive industry. Thirty-four thousand dollars was raised for the foundation through the sporting clays shootout at the Rice Creek Hunting Club in Little Falls, and close to $5,000 was raised for building two new baseball fields for the Sauk Rapids-Rice Youth Baseball Association from the Launch-a-Ball events that took place during the Rox Friday night home games.
The foundation benefits youth-related activities involving sports, arts, volunteerism, and education initiatives. It was the first time in league history that such an award was given. All 22 Northwoods League members vote on the award.
