(KNSI) – Investigators are releasing more information after a threat that was made about a school shooting at Tech High School Thursday afternoon.

The St. Cloud Police Department says pictures featuring weapons and the caption, “we’re shooting this school up at 1 pm” are at least two years old and come from outside of the central Minnesota area.

There will be an increased law enforcement presence across the entire St. Cloud Area School District in response to the posting for the remainder of today.

St. Cloud Police say they have yet to identify who made the initial social media threats. The intention is to pursue charges against those responsible.

In an email to parents obtained by KNSI from Tech High School Principal Jason Harris at 11:36 a.m., the district said there was reason to believe the threats were not credible.

“We became aware of a rumor circulating on social media about an alleged threat at Tech High School today. Our administration is partnering closely with law enforcement, and the St. Cloud Police Department has determined there is no credible threat to student or staff safety.

Please talk with your student about the importance of responsible social media use and reporting concerns to trusted adults.”

Superintendent Dr. Laurie Putnam says, “We of course take all threats seriously. We immediately partnered with law enforcement [and] they investigated.” Putnam reiterated that there is no credible threat.

Putnam says it is perfectly normal to be tense when possible threats surface. She says, “We understand that some of our students and our families are getting a little jittery given the threats that are happening and the violence that has happened around the nation. So, we did communicate outward to all of our staff all of our secondary students and all of our families.”

She encourages students to speak up if they are concerned about safety, “We want them to report that to an adult, however, posting on social media is not that. That’s just attention seeking behavior, and we will address it accordingly.”
