College Hockey

The Saint Cloud State Varsity Men’s Hockey Team surged to #2 in the latest USCHO media poll after sweeping Minnesota State this weekend. The Huskies picked up 14 first place votes. Minnesota remains the top-ranked team in the country.

SCSU 3, Mavericks 2 (Friday night): The Huskies got the tying goal late in the second period on a tally from Grant Cruikshank. He was also part of the power play unit who netted the game-winner 35 seconds into the third, serving up an assist to Kyler Kupka.

SCSU 4, Mavericks 3 (Saturday night): Cruikshank’s fantastic weekend continued with two more goals. He opened the scoring shorthanded at 7:53 of the first period and closed it out late in the third period, assisted by Kyler Kupka. Kupka and Cruikshank also contributed to a Micah Miller goal which made it 2-1 Huskies halfway through the game.

The women’s team dropped both games in a home-and-home set against #2 Minnesota.

UM 4, SCSU 2 (Friday): Played at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center, it was all Gophers early on. Minnesota led 4-0 after the first period. Klara Hymlarova lit the lamp late in period number two and Olivia Cvar notched a goal with eight seconds to go in regulation for Saint Cloud State.

UM 2, SCSU 1 (Saturday): The Huskies came out firing. Emma Gentry was assisted by Courtney Hall to give Saint Cloud a 1-0 lead just 54 seconds into the contest. Madison Kaiser and Grace Zumwinkle scored for Minnesota as the Gophers squeaked by.

Women’s Volleyball

St Cloud State 3, Bemidji State 0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-18): Kenzie Foley led the charge, racking up 14 kills, four aces, and nine digs (all were team highs). The front line was active as well. Phebie Rossi and Sam Zimmerman notched five blocks. Makena Hollman had three.

Huskies 3, Crookston 0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-18): Linsey Rachel picked up 13 kills. Setter Emma Berran had 36 assists and once again the front line was phenomenal. Phebie Rossi recorded seven blocks, Berran chipped in five, and Sam Zimmerman had four.

College Soccer

The men’s team went 0-1-1 on the weekend. On Friday they fell to the Northern Michigan Wildcats 4-2. Miguel Konde Gwo got both goals for the Huskies, assisted by Philip Caputo each time.

It looked like the Huskies were going to knock off Parkside Sunday thanks to two Philip Caputo tallies. He found the back of the net in the 77th and 82nd minutes but SCSU couldn’t keep Parkside off the board late in the second half.

The women’s team was on the road, splitting a pair of games. Friday they were shut out at Northern State, 1-0.

On Sunday, the Huskies bested Moorhead 3-0. Jenna Dominguez scored in the 29th and 35th minutes. Niamhie Taylor-Hughes tacked on a goal in the second half.
