(KNSI) – Two small fires occurred in the area over the weekend, with one leading to some damage.

A storage shed at Holy Cross Church near Pearl Lake went up six days before the parish’s 59th Annual Fish Fry. Inside were the fryers used to prepare the main course, traditionally served with potato salad and baked beans.

Member Gene Deering says the Kimball and Watkins Fire Departments saved enough units to allow the event to go on as planned. The Kimball American Legion is also helping out following the fire.

High winds on Sunday caused a grass fire in a St. Cloud alley to spread. When crews arrived at the 1000 block of 8th Avenue North at about 2:00 p.m., they found flames covering an area about 25 feet long.

The fire was close to buildings and utility poles, but personnel were able to put it out before any harm was done. Damage was confined to grass and leaves. The fire’s cause remains under investigation.
