(KNSI) – Former Saint Cloud State Husky Nick Perbix made his National Hockey League debut Tuesday night. He is a native of Elk River, Minnesota.
The 24-year-old defenseman was drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning and opened the season with their minor league affiliate in Syracuse, New York. Perbix was called up for the Lightning’s home opener and assigned to the team’s second defensive pairing on the blueline.
Perbix was featured heavily, accounting for 18 shifts totaling over 13:30 of ice time. Tampa Bay lost the game, though. The Lightning fell to Philadelphia, 3-2.
Perbix was an all-NCHC performer for the Huskies in college, scoring 89 points in 135 games. He becomes the 38th former Husky player to make it to the NHL. He joins six others on professional rosters this season. The Washington Capitals have the most with three (Nic Dowd, Nick Jensen, and Charlie Lindgren).
