(KNSI) – Central Minnesota is the best place in the state to see the last remnants of fall color.
Lake Maria State Park is a great option. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources suggests driving to Little Mary Lake. Views from the trail are described as amazing. Elms, maples, and oaks are all vibrant at the moment.
Eastern Stearns County, Sherburne County, and northern Wright County is the only region in Minnesota still rated as approaching peak color, about 75% of the way there. A vast majority is past peak.
Weather will cooperate for the next several days. Friday and Saturday are expected to be sun-soaked with temperatures in the 60’s. Sunday sees some thunderstorms possible, along with wind gusts of up to 35 miles per hour. That will pull down a lot of what’s left in the trees.
Lake Maria State Park is located in Monticello. The DNR state map is here.
