(KNSI) — The 2022 Governor’s Deer Hunting Opener will be hosted in the Twin Cities.

The event will be held Thursday, November 3rd, at the Three Rivers Park District’s Elm Creek Park Reserve. The 4,900-acre property spills into Champlin, Dayton and Maple Grove. The celebration will include a deer management listening session and a deer hunters’ reception.

The firearms deer hunting season is Saturday, November 5th. According to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, around 400,000 people take to the woods and fields in search of the elusive white-tail deer.

Volunteer Mentor Program Coordinator Benji Kohn says to help hunters, the DNR has an online tool. “Go to the DNR website, click on deer hunting, and you’ll have a permit area map that’ll pull up. It is an interactive map. Go find where you are in the state, what deer management area you’re hunting in, and you can click on there and find out the rules.”

He says the online map will tell you how many deer you can take in each area and any Chronic Wasting Disease restrictions you need to be aware of. “It’s very important to get out and find that information before you get out in the woods so you don’t have to struggle to find it at the last minute.”

The DNR’s tool provides a comprehensive step-by-step list of information hunters need before heading to deer camp.
