(KNSI) – The St. Cloud VA Medical Center is taking part in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 29th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
A drop box for unused or old prescription medications is located in the pharmacy section in Building 5. Veterans can use the facility during regular business hours year-round. The public will have access for one day only.
To reach the drop box use the main entrance in Building 1. The campus is located at 4801 Veterans Drive in St. Cloud.
There are several year-round disposal sites, which can be found on the Drug Enforcement Administration website. The DEA is the agency responsible for the event, which is now in its third decade. A link to the DEA’s prescription drug take back sites is here.
The goal of the initiative is to take in unused or unwanted medications so they don’t end up in the water supply or in the hands of individuals where they will be abused. The pills are incinerated and carefully disposed of after they are turned in.
Several area departments have a medication drop-box program, both at the local and county level. A list of all Stearns County site locations is here.
