(KNSI) – The Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office is warning of a phone scam that has popped up.

They have received numerous complaints from people who have gotten phone calls from someone claiming to be an employee of the sheriff’s office. The caller has a southern accent and says the person was summoned for jury duty and failed to show up, and there is a warrant out for their arrest. They say the person needs to pay a fine using MoneyPak gift cards.

The phone number the call appears to be coming from is 763-309-6069, which is not associated with the sheriff’s office. They say the person calling also has no affiliation with the sheriff’s office.

The courts will never ask for payment via a gift card.
