(KNSI) – A Central Minnesota lawmaker is honored for his work on behalf of firefighters.

The Minnesota Fire Association Coalition has recognized Minnesota Senator Jeff Howe of Rockville. He is being honored for his work in the Legislature.

According to the association, Howe has been a longtime champion of firefighter needs and priorities during his time in the Senate. In 2021 and 2022, Howe worked on the Hometown Heroes Act to address high occurrences of cancer, cardiac issues, and emotional trauma among firefighters. The bill established a critical care insurance policy for firefighters diagnosed with these illnesses. In 2019, Howe worked on a bill to limit the use of harmful flame-retardant chemicals in certain products.

MNFAC is comprised of the Minnesota State Fire Departments Association, the Minnesota State Fire Chiefs Association, the Minnesota Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators, and the Fire Marshals Association of Minnesota.
