(KNSI) — A 12-year-old boy has died after he was shot in a hunting accident Sunday morning.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says they were called at about 8:15 to Moose Lake Township. Deputies arrived on the scene and began life-saving measures before the boy was airlifted to a Twin Cities hospital, where he died. The family told police they were in the area from St. Paul hunting squirrel when the boy’s 47-year-old uncle accidentally shot him.

The investigation is ongoing.
