(KNSI) — On the heels of his endorsement from the Minnesota Peace and Police Officer’s Association, Republican candidate for Governor, Dr. Scott Jensen, was in St. Cloud on Saturday to tour the police station and meet with community leaders.

Jensen says he is grateful for the support of the MPPOA, saying the endorsement is significant because “Here is more than 10,000 rank and file cops that have said we’re supporting the Jensen/Burke administrative team. This was huge. We’re thrilled. We’re flattered. We’re humbled. But come January, the police are going to have someone elevating the work they do, lifting the work they do up.”

Jensen says he was in the city to get ideas on improving public safety.

“Ultimately, we’re going to trail blaze innovative ideas, which the St. Cloud police force has already been doing. They’ve been doing new things and that’s part of the reason I’m here today. I want to hear what’s working and what we should do more of.”

He learned about the SCPD’s program embedding a mental health worker with police and the department’s Community Outpost. Jensen praised both programs.

He says fighting crime will be one of his top priorities if he is elected.
