(KNSI) — The Waite Park Fire Department is hosting an open house Thursday ahead of Fire Prevention Week.

The open house is on October 6th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. There will be free hot dogs, pop, an inflatable for the kids, and prizes. Kids can check out the fire trucks, and there will be a vehicle extrication demonstration.

The fire department is located at 19 13th Avenue North in Waite Park.

Fire Prevention Week is marking its 100th anniversary this year. It’s held in the week where October 9th falls to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The first Fire Prevention Week was held in 1922 before it was designated as a national observance in 1925 by President Calvin Coolidge.
