Commander Mushatt Being Promoted To St. Cloud Police Assistant Chief

(KNSI) – St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis announced Thursday afternoon in a press release that Commander Brett Mushatt will be the new assistant chief of police.

The promotion will happen at the end of November when current Assistant Police Chief Jeff Oxton takes over the top role upon the retirement of Police Chief William Blair Anderson. Anderson has led the department for the past decade.

Mushatt is a St. Cloud native and graduate of Tech High School. He attended St. John’s University, receiving a degree in social work and playing on the football team. Mushatt was a Division III All-American defensive back, who still holds the Johnnies’ interception record.

Mushatt completed a graduate degree in public safety executive leadership from Saint Cloud State University. He joined the department in 2002. Mushatt has been deeply involved in the youth and community engagement programming initiatives in recent years. He has been an assistant coach at Sauk Rapids-Rice High School for several seasons and has past experience working with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Minnesota.

Kleis says he is proud of the fact that the top positions in the Saint Cloud Police Department will soon both be staffed by lifelong central Minnesota residents.
