(KNSI) – Two Saint Cloud State University staff have been awarded $30,000 to help improve the lives of people with disabilities.

Associate Psychology Professor Dr. Marcy Young Illies and Special Education Professor Dr. Brian Vanentini are teaming up with Rise for a research project. Rise is a nonprofit organization that supports people with disabilities who hold down jobs in the area.

The goal is to examine what affects a person with a disability’s likelihood of choosing a job compared to a career that pays a special minimum wage.

The competitive grant comes from the Shavlik Family Foundation, which supports research that removes barriers with the help of technology for people with disabilities so they can reach their full potential.
