(KNSI) – GOP Secretary of State Candidate Kim Crockett says her comments about accepting election results have been misconstrued. In a debate Sunday, Crockett said, “We will just have to see what happens between now and the certification of the election.”

On Tuesday afternoon she said she has reservations about how elections are conducted in the state, specifically about the length of the absentee ballot voting period. Crockett says it was originally designed for military members and others with special circumstances during the Pawlenty administration.

“We need to take care of our men and women in uniform and citizens who are abroad, but the whole state shouldn’t be voting for six weeks.”

Crockett says she learned in law school that exceptional cases make bad policy when applied to everyone.

She says the long window of no excuse absentee voting is a huge strain on the system, including election officials.

“I believe that most of our election officials out there are doing their best and I think we’ve asked too much of them. We’ve turned it into this long thing. We used to vote on election day, and I think we did it pretty accurately.”

Crockett appeared on KNSI’s Ox In The Afternoon program.
