(KNSI) – Sunny skies look to continue to be the rule across the state for the next week, leading to increased drought, including several places in the northwoods that haven’t seen dry conditions yet this year.

Over a fifth of Minnesota’s land area is now suffering a moderate or severe drought, including near the headwaters of the Mississippi River in Hubbard and Beltrami Counties.

Dry conditions are unchanged from last week in Central Minnesota. Only Wright County is in a drought in its southern and eastern portions. Sherburne and Stearns County are abnormally dry throughout. About half of Benton County is as well.

The greatest chance for rain in the next week does not rise above 20%, according to the National Weather Service. It represents ideal harvest conditions for farmers.
