(KNSI) – Minnesota Fallen Firefighters Memorial Day is Sunday and flags will be at half-staff to mark the solemn occasion.
Governor Tim Walz is urging businesses, government employees, individuals, and other organizations across the state to participate. The annual commemoration is to honor those lost in the line of duty. Walz says, “We rely on our firefighters to respond quickly to emergencies and protect the people and property of Minnesota, and every firefighter deserves to come home at the end of every shift.”
South Haven firefighter Allen Fischer died January 10th from a medical condition he developed after 42 years with the department. The Minnesota Fallen Firefighters Memorial Association says on its website he is the only person lost in the line of duty this year.
Andy Loso of the St. Joseph Volunteer Fire died on November 23rd, 2021 due to COPD. Brian Lange of the Upsala FD was lost December 11th and Tintah Fire’s Timothy Kath died on December 31st.
