(KNSI) – The Saint Cloud Area School District is among a growing list of districts across the state dealing with a swatting incident. Investigators say at 12:10 p.m., the St. Cloud Police Department received a call claiming that there was an active shooter situation at Apollo High School.
Department officials reached out to the School Resource Officer who was on site and were quickly able to rule the report out as false.
Some other districts affected include Austin, Cloquet, Mankato and Rochester. Swatting occurs when police are called about a dangerous, violent situation that is not actually occurring to induce a response designed to intimidate people at the location in question.
Investigators say the Minnesota Fusion Center is tracking these reports and keeping local law enforcement apprised of the situation.
Other states across the U.S. have experienced similar mass swatting attempts.
The BCA reminds students and communities to notify local law enforcement and school resource officers about suspected threats to schools and to contact the BCA through its See It Say It Send It app.
