(KNSI) — Former Minneapolis police officer Thomas Lane was sentenced to three years in prison for aiding and abetting second degree manslaughter in connection to the death of George Floyd.
Lane pleaded guilty to the state charge in May of 2022. As part of the plea deal, the court agreed he would serve three years in prison at the same time he was serving his sentence for federal civil rights violation charges. He and the other two officers, J Alexander Kueng and Tou Thao, were convicted on those counts in February.
In a video conference Wednesday morning, Judge Peter Cahill said it was “very wise” for Lane to accept responsibility. Lane is in prison in Colorado.
Kueng and Thao will go on trial on state charges next month.
