(KNSI) – Story initially posted at 2:13 p.m. on Friday, September 16th.

Updated on Saturday, September 17th, at 9:50 a.m.

The Saint Cloud Police Department says in an update that a car-semi crash early Friday morning was most likely caused by drunk driving.

Investigators say a 37-year-old man from St. Cloud was traveling south on County Road 74 when he crossed into oncoming traffic, attempting an erratic left turn at about 6:17 near 23rd Street South. The car collided with a tractor-trailer driven by a 56-year-old from Anoka. Police say the truck driver tried to avoid the other vehicle but still hit it head-on.

The Anoka man was not hurt but the car sustained significant damage and the St. Cloud Fire Department was called to the scene to cut their way inside. When they pulled the St. Cloud man from his vehicle, officers say the interior smelled of alcohol. They obtained a search warrant and are awaiting toxicology results before deciding on whether to charge him with a crime.

He was taken to St. Cloud Hospital by Mayo Ambulance for serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
