(KNSI) – St. Cloud State University will celebrate a million-dollar donation and name the department after its donor.
The Judy C. Pearson Department of Communication Studies will hold a ceremony at noon on Thursday, September 22nd, in the Riverview lobby on the University campus.
SCSU’s communication studies department helps students learn to work in several fields including sales, mediator, speechwriter, press secretary, technical copywriter and public opinion researcher.
The department will be the university’s first to be named after an individual. According to a press release, the Pearsons’ million-dollar gift will benefit student and faculty development. The money will help fund international education grants and scholarships, academic conferences and scholarships, and guest speakers and visiting professors, among others.
The donation was part of SCSU’s “Unleash the Future” campaign, which has raised $38 million – 19 percent more than its initial goal.
