(KNSI) – Leaves are starting to change in patchwork fashion.
Most of the state is still dormant, but there are zones showing 10-25% color on both the Canadian and Iowa borders. The nearest zone reaches from St. Michael and Albertville over towards Litchfield on its northern end. It then curls down towards the Minnesota River. State parks reporting color in the region include Flandreau State Park, Fort Ridgely State Park, and Minnesota Valley State Recreation Area. The predominant color at this point is yellow with grasses turning as well.
Other places in the state beginning to turn include Big Stone Lake Park on the Dakota border. Also in Minnesota’s northwest corner. The area is bordered on the east by Lake of the Woods and the Upper and Lower Red Lakes to the south.
The Department of Natural Resources keeps a weekly tally of the progress through the end of October. A link to the newest data is here.
