(KNSI) – The 10th annual Get Youth Outdoors Day had its largest crowd in history.
On Sunday, more than 60 kids got the chance to learn about firearms safety and conservation while shooting rifles, shotguns and archery during the event at Wild Marsh Sporting Clays in Clear Lake. Thirteen volunteers with Union Sportsmen’s Alliance gave safety instructions and hands-on lessons.
“Most of the kids were first-timers, and they truly enjoyed learning. One boy stayed at the archery station for about 45 minutes. Initially, he couldn’t hit the target, but he kept at it and was soon hitting the middle with all five arrows. Then he ended up winning a bow as a door prize,” said USA Conservation Coordinator Cody Campbell.
The event was put on by Union Sportsmen’s Alliance’s Work Boots on the Ground program. The goal is to instill a passion for the outdoors in the next generation.
